Wind in the Willows offers year round enrollment for our Preschool program as well as our Kindergarten Prep program.

Our students range in age from 2 years 9 months to 5 years old. Preschoolers and Kinder Prep may attend 3, 4 or 5 days a week.

All programs are kept small to allow the teachers to get to know each child well, and to provide a social environment that isn't overwhelming. Our teacher to child ratio is 1:6.

Re-Enrollment: November-January

Current families submit re-enrollment requests for the following fall, and sibling requests are put on the schedule. Sibling families have priority.

March

Once openings are determined new families will be notified and have one week to decide whether or not to accept. First month’s tuition and fees are required to secure a spot. Enrollment is balanced by age, gender, and reflects all ethnic, racial and economic segments of the community.

August

New students and their families are invited to an hour and a half Welcoming Day at the School.

Application Process

Call or email the school any time to request information and an application. Applications may be sent in at any time, there is no deadline or age requirement. All applications are grouped by birth year; there is no penalty or privilege for getting an application in early.

Enrollment at Wind in the Willows begins at age 2 years 9 months. Children can enroll at any point during the school year, when they reach this age.

Questions

What is the philosophy of the school?

Every family is welcome at Wind in the Willows. We strive to reflect all racial, cultural and economic segments of the community. Our developmentally appropriate curriculum recognizes the value of children learning through play, at their own pace and within a context that is meaningful to them. We provide a safe and nurturing environment that emphasizes creativity, socialization, motor skills and emotional and cognitive development.

What ages do you take?

Wind in the Willows enrolls children aged 2 years 9 months to 5. Children can enroll at any point during the school year, when they reach the minimum age.

Does my child need to be potty trained?

No. WITW will accept children who are not potty trained. Parents will be responsible for providing diapers and pull-ups. Children often potty train quickly with the help of teachers and through watching their peers. However, we understand that each child moves at their own pace, and we will help facilitate a child to learn their own body and help them use the restroom when they are ready.

When does school start?

WITW closely follows the SFUSD calendar. School typically starts the 3rd Wednesday in August.

What is the school calendar?

We typically start school the third week in August and run through the end of May or first week of June. We have the same holidays as most public and private schools - two weeks at the end of December, one week for spring break and the same school holidays observed by the SFUSD calendar.

What are the hours of the school?

Hours of Operation:

Drop off: 8:30-8:45 a.m.

Pick up: 12:45-1:00 p.m.

Extended Care until 2:30 p.m.

How many teachers are there?

Our staff consists of one director/teacher and three other teachers who, we are proud to say, have a combined 50 years of experience in early childhood education. The student teacher ratio at any given time is 6:1.

How is tuition handled?

WITW uses Brightwheel, a secure platform for tuition and communication. Tuition is paid on a monthly basis using Brightwheel. There are options to set up your account for autopay.

Do you accept children with special needs?

Special needs students are welcome depending on the school's ability to accommodate their needs. Parents and teachers will confer together regarding the best plan for the child.
